Student Q&A: Mila and Elizabeth discuss life abroad

Meet Mila and Elizabeth, two ambitious students from America who have embarked on an exciting journey to London to pursue their engineering degrees at TEDI. Here they turn the tables and interview each other about their experiences studying and living abroad so far. Watch their full chat via the video below.

So, where in America are you from?

Elizabeth: I’m from Tucson, Arizona.

Mila: Oh my gosh, I’m from Gilbert!

Elizabeth: Arizona twins!

Mila: Arizona twins, exactly.

How are you finding life in London so far?

Mila: I am truly, truly loving it. Every day when I wake up, I open my window, and I’m like, “It’s a great day to be in London!”

Elizabeth: Disney princess style!

Mila: Besides coming here for the three-year degree and all the great academic attributes, I think that London itself is so diverse. It’s so nice being surrounded by such a big city where you don’t see the same person twice.

What do you think to the project-based style of learning at TEDI-London?

Mila: I really like it. It’s giving you that hands-on experience to figure out what you like and what you’re good at, that a book and a lecture couldn’t give you. What project have you enjoyed the most so far?

Elizabeth: Introduction to Engineering. Because there’s more creativity involved. With Reverse Engineering, we’re working on a robotic vacuum, and we’re trying take it apart, build it back together, see what we can do to make it better.  I just want to add a final LED to give it anime eyes!

Mila: Oh, beautiful!

What’s a skill you’re proud of developing since coming out here?

Elizabeth: I’d love to say budgeting. I’d love to say time management…

Mila: And you know, we’re still developing those.

Elizabeth: It’s a work in progress. I probably would say being alone.

Mila: I agree. I think since coming out here, a skill being developed is being comfortable in your own skin. Being by yourself as an international student pushes your boundaries in so many ways that you can’t even imagine until you’re already doing it, in learning how to be by yourself, and how to navigate the world by yourself.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a new student?

Mila: I’d tell them to trust their intuition and to go with the flow. Accept change. Be confident in yourself.

Elizabeth: I love that!
