Learn about the decision making and governance infrastructure at TEDI-London: the Board of Trustee Directors and the Strategic Leadership Team.

TEDI-London is an independent UK provider of higher education and holds the highest form of UK accreditation for taught degree programmes: Full Degree Awarding Powers (FDAP), as registered by the Office for Students (OfS), the regulator for higher education in England.

TEDI-London is financially supported by its two members: Arizona State University and Cintana Education, while King’s College London and the UNSW Sydney continue to support TEDI-London’s mission as Founding Partners.

Board of Trustee Directors

The Board of Trustee Directors is responsible for overseeing our academic mission, strategic direction, and operating activities. The members of the Board are both Directors of TEDI-London as a company limited by guarantee and Trustees of TEDI-London as a registered charity.

Professor Sir Malcolm Grant Board of Trustee Directors TEDI-London

Professor Sir Malcolm Grant

Professor Sir Malcolm Grant is the Chair of the Board of Trustee Directors of TEDI-London.

Professor Sir Malcolm Grant is a distinguished academic and public servant. He has held senior roles at University College London and the University of Cambridge, including serving as President and Provost of UCL for 10 years.

In public service, he chaired the Russell Group, the Local Government Commission for England, and the UK Government’s Biotechnology Commission. Appointed by Prime Minister David Cameron, he was the founding Chair of NHS England, serving for seven years. Internationally, he has advised Arizona State University and chaired the PLuS Alliance. He currently advises governments and institutions in the UK, USA, New Zealand, Australia, UAE, and France

Emma Cariaga

Emma Cariaga

Emma was appointed Chief Operating Officer of British Land in January 2025.

Prior to this, she jointly led the company’s 53-acre Canada Water development project in central London.

Emma joined British Land in 2014 from Landsec where she delivered a number of Central London developments as well as overseeing their strategic land portfolio.

Prior to this, Emma held development and land management roles at Barratt and Crest Nicholson.

Professor Mark Searle

Professor Mark Searle

Mark Searle is executive vice president and university provost at Arizona State University. He holds the rank of professor in the School of Community Resources and Development in the College of Public Service and Community Solutions. Prior to this current administrative appointment, Mark served as interim provost, deputy provost and chief of staff, vice president for academic personnel, vice provost for academic affairs, founding dean of the College of Human Services, and as vice president and provost of ASU’s West campus.

Mark joined ASU after an extensive career in Canada where he was the founding director of the multidisciplinary Health, Leisure, and Human Performance Research Institute. Prior to his university appointment, Mark served in various management positions within municipal and provincial government. Mark is widely published on the relationships between sense of community, leisure behaviour and the psychological well-being of adults across the lifespan.

Professor Sir Bashir M. Al-Hashimi

Professor Sir Bashir M. Al-Hashimi

Prof Sir Bashir M. Al-Hashimi is the ARM Professor of Computing Engineering and Vice President (Research & Innovation) at King’s College London. His research focuses on understanding through theory and practice interactions between hardware and software of constrained computing systems and how such understanding can be used to optimise energy reduction and improve performance. Recognised internationally through numerous awards including the IET Faraday Medal in 2020, he received a CBE for services to engineering and industry in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2013, and Fellow of the Royal Society in 2023.

Doug Becker

Doug Becker is the founder of Cintana Education, launched in partnership with Arizona State University to help universities around the world expand access to high-quality education. Cintana’s network includes over 30 universities serving more than 300,000 students globally.

Previously, Doug founded and led Laureate Education, building it into the world’s largest network of universities, with over 1 million students across 70 institutions in 29 countries. He was also CEO of Sylvan Learning Systems, expanding it into North America’s leading K-12 tutoring provider.

Doug serves on the Boards of Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins Medicine International, and is Chair Emeritus of the International Youth Foundation, where he served as Chair for 16 years.

John Latham Board of Trustee Directors TEDI-London

John Latham

John Latham is an experienced leader in the education sector, having served as both CEO and Chairman of major education businesses in the UK.

Prior to his executive roles, he spent 13 years working with Russell Group universities, contributing to the advancement of research-intensive higher education.

John now serves as a trusted advisor to investors in the education industry, offering strategic guidance grounded in deep sector expertise and leadership experience.
