Recent Engineering UK data shows that 61.9% of white engineering and technology graduates were working in the engineering sector within 6 months of graduation compared to only 41.6% of black engineering and technology graduates. This scholarship is a positive action specifically targeted at increasing participation by black students in the engineering workforce after graduation.
1 full and up to 4 partial scholarships
Individuals who receive the full scholarship grant will be awarded £8,600 per year. Partial scholarships will be either 25% or 50% of this value. It will be your choice as to how the money is used (e.g. to offset the money against tuition fees or use it for living costs).
You will also be offered financial support to the minimum value of £400 per year (or 25% or 50% of this value for partial scholarships) to attend engineering or career events. This money will cover costs of tickets, transport and accommodation.
You will be assigned a coach in your second year, to meet with on an informal basis once per term. This mentor will provide both coaching and careers and they will be either a member of TEDI-London academic staff, or a part of TEDI-London's industry network.
To apply you'll need to self-identify as being a black student, with a Home fee status, holding an offer to study at TEDI-London.
Eligible applicants will be asked to complete either:
A 2 minute Vlog
A 300 word Blog
On the question:
‘How will the role of engineers in 2040 be different to the role of engineers today?’
‘What do you feel is the biggest global challenge we are facing today and how will engineers be involved in meeting that challenge?’
